We feel it is essential that our team remain up to date on current innovations and developments in the field of case management. And so, from time to time, we attend conferences and other meetings in order to gather information, take part in discussions, and learn about the very latest best practise. Below is a timeline of our activities...

11th March 2026

Ella found it to be 'A varied conference with presentations ranging from a meander through the world of AI, to what makes an excellent mental capacity assessment, punctuated with legal framework reflections - and even two episodes of breathing exercises and stretches. My highlight was listening to teenage Zach, the young Yorkshire Lad (he’s got the T-shirt) talking about the story behind Zach’s Law, part of the Online Safety Act. All before he's even done his GCSE's....Well done that lad!'

We are proud of Victoria, who with her OT colleague Gemma (from Rehabilitate) contributed to this fascinating day, itself sponsored by Rehabilitate Therapy Ltd. The event looked at all aspects of Independent Living Trials and was aided ably by Victoria's powerful and thought-provoking talk on 'Mr C- The Man who lived defiantly in slippers'.

The title of the conference was 'The Language Through Recovery', and Mark found it A thoroughly engaging event hearing from clients, their family members, and some therapists who have worked alongside them. There were some truly inspiring stories, and It was good to see industry colleagues in person and meet with some new faces too."

Rebecca attended this event entitled the 'Litigation Jigsaw: Fitting the Pieces Together'. Rebecca noted that "The presentations were excellent, and whilst they demonstrated how the jigsaw pieces fit together through strong collaboration, there were also plenty of cautionary examples of how poor practise can affect outcomes". She would like to say, "Many thanks to all the presenters for their insight and advice".

Ella attended a 'Level 4 Safeguarding Supervision' event. As always with Linda Sayers's excellent events, this group  session was extremely thought provoking, looking at serious case reviews and potential safeguarding concerns around the use of social media and AI. Much food for thought to take back to discuss with the NLT team.

Ella was lucky enough to be invited by Emma Gaudern (of EMG Solicitors) to attend this wonderful event in London on 12th, where totally inspirational people were honoured by Headway for their dedication to supporting people with brain injuries. It was a very heartwarming day and Ella was most grateful to Emma for inviting her to share it with her.

This excellent event, entitled 'Bridging the Future', presented by BABICM and sponsored by Irwin Mitchell solicitors, looked at how best to 'support the transition to adulthood for children with complex disabilities'. The event included informative presentations from experienced professionals, plus a contribution from a 22-year-old man who shared his personal experiences of the good and the bad of his interaction with case management.

Our annual Team Day was held at the Mercure Hotel in Sheffield. It was a super opportunity to look back and consolidate on the past year, and to learn lessons, plan and to look forward to the next one. Living across the north of England, it was very nice for us all to be able to meet up.

Second Chance Headway held its Spring Charity Ball on Thursday, to raise funds for the charity's ongoing work in 'improving life after brain injury'. The evening raises awareness generally and has been a fixture on the fundraising calendar for over forty years. Most of our case management team made it along and thoroughly enjoyed meeting up with colleagues old and new.

Ella attended a very thought-provoking evening seminar, hosted by Irwin Mitchell, looking at the proposed law surrounding Assisted Dying. Although not yet law, Irwim Mitchell lawyer Yogi Amin set out what a significant piece of legislation this is going to be for all of us, not least those working in the health and social care world. There are as yet many unanswered questions and we will continue to follow this issue carefully.

Over 40 clients, their support workers, and some family members spent a happy afternoon chatting, mingling, and playing festive games. Once again we chose The Quays Hotel Sheffield, and its attentive staff and nicely decorated function room helped make our festive buffet another great success. Thanks go to the hotel staff, and to all those who made the effort to celebrate the season with us.

The impressive building where the event was held was built for the 1929 North East Exhibition - itself a project to foster arts & craft and industry. Since 2000 it has been the home of the Wylam Brewery.

It was established in 1966 to foster best practice in the industry and its conferences have become an important forum for exchanging news and views across this area of the care sector.
